A religious sect known as Naga sadhu can be seen nude. These sadhus usually remain naked or some wear a loin-cloth around their waist and ashes smeared over their body. They usually remain in their Akhara or deep forest and come out in public only during Kumbh Mela. They have very long history and are warrior monks, who usually also carry Talwar, Trishul, Bhala or such weapons and in medieval times have fought many wars to protect Hindu temples and shrines.
